How it works
- 1
Paste what you have
A DOI, a link to the journal page, an arXiv or PubMed link, or just the title of the paper.
- 2
We check the open-access indexes
Unpaywall and OpenAlex track free copies in thousands of university repositories, preprint servers and journals.
- 3
Read or share the free copy
You get a direct link to the PDF where it is legally hosted, on a page you can share with anyone.
Where the free copies come from
Many paywalled papers also exist as a free copy that the authors or the publisher have shared legally. They are scattered across thousands of sites, so we look in all of them at once.
